Hi Girls!

I've been taking the Kick Start Online Card Class and I actually did some homework! Whoot! My crafty friend, Leslie (aka The Crooked Stamper), and I paired up for this challenge. We were assigned to get with a crafting buddy and use the same stamp set to make a card!

It was almost more of a challenge to figure out what stamp sets we both owned! But, we picked these two from Hero Arts:

 Drum roll please....

What do you think? I was stumped for a L-O-N-G time! Then BAM! I got :) I did have to pull in a sentiment stamp obviously. As I type this I'm just itching to place the sentiment a little more to the right! Arg!!

Hop over to Leslie and see what she came up with using the same two set!

Thanks for stopping by!

Technique Tag Ring

Hello Ladies!

It's my turn over at A Blog Named Hero today! I'm showing you how I like to make technique tags and put a binder ring through them for easy reference. It's also a great way to jump start your brain and get focused on a project. I got the idea from Tim Holtz and then Britta with her online class.

I have a free PDF with the instructions to adhere to the back of each tag over at the blog!

Play in our challenge too! There's a prize up for grabs from Simon Says Stamp!

Thanks for stopping by!

A Fleck of Flickr

Happy Saturday Blog Stalkers!

Do you use Flickr? I do. Like a lot. When I don't want to overwhelm yer little 'ol in box, I upload to Flickr. It would be nice to blog EVERY card, but seriously, that's overkill in my world. So I use Flickr to 1) have my cards on display for public applause and 2) a tool to ease up on blog entries.

So, what's my point? I just wanted to tell you that if you need more inspiration or just need to come by and ohh-and-ahh, visit my Flickr Gallery. Admission is free!

And a little eye candy just because you came all this way:

 Design principle: Rule of Thirds

Design Principle: Repetition

Both cards used the September Card Kit from Artful Delight (yes, yes, I do have a love affair with kits). Their kits are PACKED with goodies. LOTS of embellies, LOTS of paper. I love that they really give us value for our $, there's a lot of kit clubs out there (again, I state my obsession love affair). I also applied to their DT and I usually don't say anything publically because of the disappointment if I don't make it but I'm excited, so I said something. Fingers crossed!

And in case you're still here, I discovered a new way to help kick start design process. I've been really trying to study design principles so my cards have a focus and direction. You know the Paper Crafts Design Handbook that's been all the rave lately? Well, I have it sitting right by my desk and I decided when I want to create but I'm just staring at my supplies that I'll pick one design principle and GO!

Have a great weekend! Stop by my Flickr Gallery too!

Exciting News!!!

Happy Saturday!

This past week I received 3 crazy emails that had me flying high!

  • I'm on the Lawnscaping Design Team!!!! What??? I've loved Lawn Fawn since forever and Lawnscaping was my first challenge I ever entered! So, I'm so excited and honored and thrilled to be part of the team! Here's that 1st challenge card, from March 2011:

  • Sweet, sweet blogger friend, Miriam Prantner, nominated my blog for the Liebster Award!!! Talk about a HUGE compliment! You know, it seems like EVERYONE is blogging and there's so much talent and awesomeness out there that to be recognized is a BIG deal for me!!! I'm so grateful and totally humbled by her special nod to me! Thank you, Miriam!
  • AND THEN!!! THAT'S NOT ALL!!! One of my fearless Design Team Leaders for A Blog Named Hero, Linda Trace, nominated my blog for a Liebster Award! Whaaaa??? 2 in one week? I was stop-in-my-tracks speechless at this point! I mean, talk about validation, affirmation...all the awesomeness, all the blushing, all the heart palpitations! Craziness! Thank you, Linda!
*Phew* What a week, eh?

So here's how the Liebster Award works:

Liebster is a German word meaning "Beloved," "Favorite," or "Dearest." This award is a peer to peer award in which fellow bloggers present the award to their favorite bloggers with less than 200 followers. The origins of this award is unclear, but is believed to have originated by a German blogger. This award was designed to be a blog award in the pay it forward fashion to share your dearest and most beloved blogs that have less than 200 followers.

Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to their blog. Post the award onto your blog. Give the award to five bloggers who you appreciate that have less than 200 followers. Leave a comment on their blog letting them know that you have given them this awesome award!

Now I get to pick 10 blogs! Haha! Lucky me! So my fellow blog stalkers, in no particular order, the ladies who have inspired me, touched my life or made me giggle (I wanted to strictly play by the rules so if I couldn't find a follower count on someone's blog, I didn't include it):

  1. Jennifer-You are my virtual soul mate, I'm sure of it! I love what you create and I love your sense of humor! I'm so glad I can call you a friend! I'm excited to see what we do next! I appreciate the time you've taken to get to know me, outside of the crafty world :)
  2. Kelly-You got me hooked on neon! That was a feat in and of itself because eek, I wasn't gonna go there. I'm so thankful we met and have become friends. I'm inspired by your CAS cheerful style. I've learned a lot from you.
  3. Lenny-Always so, so, so very supportive of me and my adventures. My virtual cheerleader for sure!
  4. Yainea-The designs you come up with blow my mind. So original and clever. Always well-made, always makes me smile. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better at Lawnscaping!
  5. Tamera-I always see your name pop up in my Flickr stream or on Facebook. You've encouraged me to keep playing in challenges and have inspired me with your scrapbook layout's.
  6. Kara Lynn-You came out of no where it seems! I'm thankful for your faithful support on my blog, always leaving me wonderful comments. You're a rockstar in the card making world and you're already gaining so much footing-I'm excited to see where you'll go next.
  7. Stephanie-When I see cards you make, I wish I would have come up with the idea first! You're so sweet and I'm so glad we've become friends. You're a good soul.
  8. Christy-You've been supporting my Lawnscaping fascination for a long time! It's so encouraging and I appreciate you. I'm glad we've gotten to know each other better in recent months!
  9. Chari-You are so creative and talented. And you're my go-to person for knowing all things crafty. I need an app for you!
  10. Sarah-My new game is finding your cards in the Paper Crafts publications! I love your style and admire your talent.
Is everyone feeling the love?? I'm feeling all mushy inside now :)

Have a great weekend!

Short Post-Only 2 Cards!!

Hello Lovelies!

I  just two cards I have for show-and-tell. Compared to yesterday's 42 I sort-of feel like I'm slacking!

For the current Hero Arts challenge: (I picked Fall & Colors)

I actually sketched this one out first! For the colors I just printed the prompt Hero Arts has on their blog then  punched holes. I'd say I nailed the colors!

I wanted to capture the heart. I applied some pearlized top coat from ClearSnap and then glossy accents. I learned that trick from Stephanie at Steph Made Life, now I'm addicted to it!

And for my 2nd card, I played with some digi stamps from Sweet Stamp Shop as well as a traditional set from Hero Arts.

Nicole Rixon, the owner of Sweet Stamp Shop, drew us a digi image that we could use for the current Flickr Challenge! Now, the challenge was to use a photo for inspiration but then they gave us the digi stamp so I wasn't 100% sure if it was ok to just use the digi without incorporating the photo interpretation part. Who knows, but I had fun playing.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

Making a 6x6 Paper Pad Disappear!

Hello Lovelies!

I have a HUGE post today. It's so big I'm afraid you'll bail on me so if you stay tuned, I might have a giveaway at the bottom! Yes, I'm bribing you.

You need the back story on this post. Operation Write Home (OWH) sends blank handmade cards to military so they can send handmade cards home to their loved ones. They had a tutorial on their blog a few weeks back about how to use up an entire 6 x 6 paper pad to make a TON of cards. You need a pad, the OWH sketches and a serious amount of coffee and advil for your back :) Ask me how I know :)

A crafty friend, Leslie, challenged herself to do this, and she did...wait for it...60 cards. Nope, you didn't read that wrong, 60 cards from one pad. Oh my word, I know. SO, I decided to give it a try. Check it out HERE, HERE and HERE.

This is what happened:

1. Had to water color one last time (last card I made, pics not in the same order that I made them, I'm not that organized! Actually, it looks like I uploaded them backwards. That doesn't really matter though).

2. Had to paper piece! OWH sketch.

3. I was getting loopy so I wanted to make a hand print turkey. And I failed. Then I tried to salvage it. And failed again. I will not be sending this one in!

4. Most of the cards I made followed OWH sketches.

5. It was hard to keep the cards flat/no glitter!

5-8. Using one sketch

9. I broke down and started water coloring

9-15. Using one sketch

16. Made my own pattered paper by stamping leaves. The orange is super wonky in the photos.

16-19 Using one sketch

20. I like this one, hard to align the 4 papers though, mostly because I'm incapable of adhering/stamping straight. Why I kept picking cards with 4 blocks is beyond me.

20-21. Using one sketch

22. I like these too. Tags, go figure.

22-28. Using one sketch

29. Not sure about that leaf paper. I was trying to keep the cards gender neutral and leaves instead of flowers, but some of the paper had flowers, I just went with it.

29-31. Using one sketch

32. Way to simple for me, I didn't know where to go with it, most definitely missing something though.

32 -35. Using one sketch

36. I love this design.

36-37. Using one sketch

38. These are the first ones I made. This is before I started inking edges and adding faux stitching.

38-42. Using one sketch

Here's what is left! I still could make several cards, isn't that crazy! MME paper pad "All Spice". 42 total cards!

To make the process more streamlined I used all Lawn Fawn sets for Thanksgiving as the due date to have those cards into OWH is at the end of September. I've only skimmed the surface of what OWH does for our troops!

Thanks for hanging in there (or totally cheating and just skipping down here!).
