Operation Safe & Sound

Hi Ladies,

I have a special post today.  Our dear friend Christy's home was broken into and a lot of her families things were either destroyed or taken. Some things held such sentimental value that nothing will replace it.  What makes our community so remarkable is that we are there for each other even though we can't physically be near our friends. These "people" violated her home, the place where we are supposed to feel the most safe, where we raise our children and where we sleep in peace. I can not even imagine what she is going through or the loss she has endured.  Dealing with the police and insurance company has been and continues to be exhausting and frustrating for Christy and her family. She has been updating her facebook page with some details.

Some of Christy's friends have come together to help. We are of course making cards for her because that's what we do, right? But ultimately, the expense of trying to get her family back on their feet will be somewhat of a strain. Imagine having to replace household items, all while trying to rebuild a sense of security that we all most times take for granted.

So, we're asking for your help. We've tried to make it convenient for you to help Christy and her family. There's a PayPal button on each of our blogs. We are asking that if its your hearts desire, that you donate whatever you can to help Christy and her family regain a sense of safety and security.  NOTHING is too small. Every little bit will make all the difference. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to help cover the costs of food, lodging and replacing at least some of the items taken.

Thank you for even reading this post in its entirety.  If you're interested in seeing all of the cards, a full list of girls who are participating in the card drive  is available below as well as at the A Blog Named HeroLawnscaping Challenge blog (Christy is a DT member on the Lawnscaping Challenge blog).

Thank you so much for reading through the post. And if you're donating, big huge hugs :) 100% of the donations will be going to Christy and her family. I'll do another post in a couple of weeks updating everyone on how Christy is doing and what we were able to raise.

Just click on the "donate" button below to be taken to Paypal.

Hugs all around,
Melissa

Happy Birthday Michelle!

We have a TON of birthday's in June! You'd think statistical with 12 DT members and 2 leaders that we've have birthday's spread out the whole year. It seems like May & June are very popular! It's fellow DT member Michelle's turn now :)

I seriously cannot stop playing with the new Summer Distress Ink! LOVE! The heart is from the Basis Grey + Hero Arts Plumeria collection, Pattern Hearts & Flowers. The dimensional flower I made out of scallop/circle punches has the Studio Calico + Hero Arts Lattice background stamp.

I hope you really do have a fabulous birthday Michelle! The rest of the DT members cards are up on A Blog Named Hero!

Workin' 9-5

Tryin' to make a livin'...love that song :)

Today some fellow DT members at A Blog Named Hero are doing a Flickr kick-your-mojo-in-the-butt type of thing! None of us like sitting down to a craft desk, lots of yummy goodies to play with then, BAM, nothin'. Sooo, Kelly & Michelle have put together a Flickr activity/challenge for us! I hear rumors about a giveaway but...you'll have to go have a look-see.

Here's my please-come-back-mojo creation:

I followed the sketch pretty much exactly because I wanted to just PLAY and not stress about design. So refreshing!

The sketch is based off of a design used by permission from Shari Carroll and interpreted by Michelle

Please take a look at our Flickr group, have some fun, play along!

The Suspense!

Boy, do I ever know how to keep the suspense around here! I know you've been checking off the days wondering when I'll post the final 2 ways to use the Hero Arts Three Flower Balls. I can't keep you on the edge of your seat any longer. Life must go on.

These cards were FUN because I used the new Summer Distress Inks! And Lawn Fawn's Quinn's ABC's. And a new Etsy favorite, MossyMade buttons!

So, the second way to use the stamp is to stamp it out several times in 3 different colors, then stamp and heat emboss letters to cut out. The 3rd way is to stamp it out and then use just a small portion for a border strip!

I hope the waiting was worth it! Hehe. And hey-if you want a chance at a free spot in the much publicized Stretch Your Stamp Online Card class, A Blog Named Hero is having a giveaway! Scoot on over and enter!

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Birthday Cristina!

It's fellow A Blog Named Hero DT member Crisina's birthday today!

I had fun playing with some new goodies! I adore everything Basic Grey comes out with and  Konnichiwa is no exeption! Paper is from the 6 x 6 pad and the floral is from the Hero Arts + Basic Grey Konnichiwa line.

The lanterns are from Lawn Fawn, Lunar Lights.

Trying to show the dimensions, shine, glitter and gloss! Lots of paper piecing going on!

Go stop by A Blog Named Hero for more of Cristina's birthday cards!

Have a great Friday!

Reach for the Sky

Hello Monday!

This is my last week taking care of a family I've been working for for 4 1/2 years. I've taken care of the little girl  since she was 1 and now she's 5 1/2. This will be an emotional week for sure.

I'm still playing with Lawn Fawn's new set, Sunny Skies. I made this for the Lawnscaping Challenge-Patterned Paper.

And I'm still playing with Clearsnap goodness :) I swirled some pearl Smooch on the clouds and I think it add a nice touch. The clouds, kites and bird were colored with my Prisma colored pencils. The rest is PP.

I'm heading out the door for work so I didn't link my supplies with InLinkz this time. I'll come back and add it later :)

Thanks for coming by, have a great week!

Some Pretty Cards

Happy Sunday!

We have a BBQ to go to later today but I got out some new Lawn Fawn sets and played first! And just because I wanted to. Not for challenge or an assignment. For pure play :)

This one is for my brother's birthday. I had the sentiment in mind after I played with "Dad's Day" and then had to hunt through some other sets for "it's your birthday".

The chair is stamped with Hero Arts mid-tone ink in Wet Cement. This ink is PERFECT for stamping solid images. I didn't really stamp with solid images because I could never get them to look right. Until now. Hero Arts saves the day :)

All I think about with "Sunny Skies" is coloring on kraft and sky scenes. I just started stamping, coloring and cutting and pretty soon this is what I had. Major dimension with pop dots, I just didn't take an angled picture.

I used some of my new favorite products from Clearsnap-Smooch Pearlized Top Coat and Smooch Glitz. The Smooch and Glitz products are color mediums kind-of. Think of perfect pearls mist but in a thicker formula you "paint" on. Some of the applicators are like finger nail polish while others are like a marker tip-really sturdy for dabbing. Fun packaging all around.

Yes, Virginia-I'm Inspired

Hello Crafty Ladies!

I had so much fun making this card! There might have been some serious Smooch action, just sayin'. Clearsnap Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink that is!

Virginia is having a challenge on her blog to use rainbow colors! I just happened to have a mini set of Clearsnap Smooch in these colors! I used Lawn Fawn's new set Belinda's Borders and Flutter By for the sentiment. Heat emboss and color away! Find some matching twine and smile :)

Thanks for stopping by! I'm trying to be better at linking my supplies, especially since InLinkz made it so quick! I shop at Simon Says Stamp the majority of the time so I linked to their store. If SSS doesn't carry it, then I go hunting supplies down on the Internets :) I tried forever to link my twine and just gave up. I'm still learning the system. But, it's from The Twinery if you're interested to still be reading this far!

One Stamp 3 Ways (eventually!)

Hello, hello! I got this GORGEOUS Hero Arts stamp, Three Flower Balls, and my plan is to showcase different ways to use it (yeah, I know, not an orginal idea but it's the first time I'm doing it, mkay?).

I'm sure you've heard the new Online Card Class is having a "Stretch Your Stamps" class beginning in July. So I thought I'd get some good practice in now!

 First up:

Love those wood butterflies from Studio Calcio! I used my Distress Markers for the flower puffs. I put some stickles on the butterflies colored them with Mr. Huey's mist in Heirloom Blue.

And now you'll have to sit in anticpation for my other 2 ways! Is that cheating?? Not sure.

Happy Birthday Danielle!

It's birthday time again! The A Blog Named Hero DT made birthday cards for our sweet DT member Danielle. She has 2 little adorable boys so I hope she gets to spoil herself a little today :)

Danielle has a beautiful card making style, CAS...so I set out to make her a pretty CAS card with washi tape. Then I pulled out a background stamp, then some ink, then CAS went out the window! I hope she likes it anyway!

Here's another tag I made using this flower punch. I have a photo tutorial HERE. I always saw this tag on a present, for presentation purposes. That's why there's some blank space on the white part.

I thought they looked pretty together! And I just noticed the sentiment banner is not straight! Argh! Just tilt your head! There, perfect!

Thanks for coming by! Happy Birthday Danielle!

Happy Father's Day

I have a cool card for you today! The current challenge at A Blog Named Hero is a color challenge! We were to make a card using the banner colors!

Guess how many episodes of Grey's Anatomy I watched while I cut out EACH feather??? Come on, guess??

The owl is actually a Hero Arts printable! It's the FIRST time EVER I used a digi anything for paper crafting. I fall into the category of die-hard traditional-refusing on principle to keep my supplies non-digi! This image actually came in 3 sizes. I think I'll make a full size card out of the big owl, what do you think?Well, I needed a masculine type critter for a Father's Day card so BAM, Hero Arts was there!

Come and play with us! You need to make a Father's Day card anyway! The awesome Simon Says Stamp is offering a gift voucher to our winner. So go on! Ink up and link up!
